Press release For immediate release Local author and poet Tascha Dresser is interested in doing presentations of her book Within These Pages for junior and senior high school creative writing classes in Bend, Oregon. Within These Pages is Ms. Dresser’s second book and is a series of essays about issues people with learning and other disabilities face along with vocational, educational, informational and the authors own experiences , anecdotes and impressions, some of which took place right here in Bend, Oregon. Her first book Coming Out of the Closet and Breaking the Chains: Poetic views from the other side of a special education class room is a large collection of her earlier poetry written in many different styles and subjects. Both books are published by Publish America. Though she grew up with a learning disability ironically she gained her first glimpse of her talent as a poet in her fifth grade special education class when the teacher gave the class an assignment to write a poem about butterflies. Ms, Dresser remembers a moment when the teacher was correcting her work and told her that it was beautiful and could see tears forming in the teachers eyes. Later, all the poems were judged in a private poetry contest the class had and her poem was awarded the blue ribbon. As she made the transition to junior high school she took creative writing as one of her elective courses in which she continued to write beautifully and continued to write and take creative writing in high school. Before, Ms Dresser wrote her first poem at only the age of twelve she had no idea of what she could do. Writing became her voice and showed her that she was actually gifted and that there was something hidden behind the learning disability when before she only heard people and schools refer to her as brain damaged or having minimal brain dysfunction. Now, she was called talented, a poet and a writer. And people can see the spark of brilliance behind the learning disability she had. Both Coming Out of the Closet and Breaking the Chains & Within These Pages is available from the publisher for $21.95 and $24.95 as well as from several internet sources including but not limited to Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, Half.com and Powellsbook.com as well on special order from your favorite book store

Excerpts from Within These Pages:
"Throughout the ages there has been struggles between the life that is given and the life we search for, the need to be important and seen as important in the eyes of others and in our hearts, the roles that suit us and the roles people give us mindlessly, what is given us for the comfort and convenience of someone else and what would be right for us. Diana, the Greek goddess of discord , would be pleased with this. Never has there been such a struggle as this one."( In Search of a Life page 253)
"This is a strange time the little corner of the world I live in has been going through, It has or should have shaken from us the feeling that we are alone. Now we are more aware that there are people from places we have never seen who mean us harm as well as good. It would seem every corner of the world is trying to pull away from each other.(Fragmented World, Page 203)
"The simplest form of written communication, the letter, can start a writer on the journey of a book( Conclusion, Page 264)
"Over the years while I have been glad to have Supplemental Security Income ,I have also felt oppressed by the system, almost afraid of my own growth as a human being, and I know my growth is inevitable and can’t be prevented. It is a natural process and means I am living and learning."
