Rodrigo Meirelles comes from a family that dates back to the original pioneers that settled Brazil. He is a very articulate writer and has a flair that will keep the reader wanting to read on. He has a zest for life that allows the reader to escape into the adventures that he is writing about and the ability to write about the hunting or fishing experiences that would escape the average reader. True to the pioneer spirit Rodrigo set himself to explore the world, working and raising a family while maintaining his dreams alive and pursuing his passion for hunting and shooting wherever he goes, South and North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Rodrigo has written about hunting for alligators in Brazil as well as dove in Michigan and his first African safari, but different from other authors, Rodrigo bring you adventures that you can live by just stepping out to the outdoors right at your backyard.

But I disliked the internal pictures quality. I want to see when he tells about the time when we spent nights at Sandor Hauser home learning to reload cartdriges in a homemade C Press, and also the time in CRA, SHTE, APTA. And there are lots of Brazilian friends waiting the Portuguese edition.

A great read!, February 3, 2007
Reviewer: Michael P. Holahan (Kalamazoo, MI)

This was a great book. I am by no means a hunter but this book was full of many colorful and entertaining anecdotes that I enjoyed immensely. The author's very unique background made for many stories that translate into his love for hunting and apparently compliment his natural story-teller nature. I would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys reading about life's passion - whether it be hunting or family, Rodrigo Meirelles has the ability to keep your attention and leave you wondering if there will be a sequel soon...

Hunting:  a passion

Easy reading, this book is not intended to compete with professional writers, but to share someone’s passion for shooting, hunting and guns in general. The book does have pieces of the writer’s life since his childhood in Brazil up to today’s adventures in North America and Africa. By bringing all those together, most of us not hunters may understand why hunting does represent so much for some people. Why easy reading? The way it’s written you feel like in a group of friends listening to someone telling his histories. Try. You will like it.

A non-hunter view of A Wild Beast at Heart

First of all, I watched my husband chuckle and recount stories from the book until he said I " had to read this book." He thought I would, " enjoy it." I must confess, I thought this would be a somewhat boring read for someone not interested in this kind of subject matter. As it turned out, I couldn't put it down! I had a wonderful afternoon of travel, adventure, and yes, hunting! I actually had fun! I even took the book with me to pick up the kids from school (arriving early so I could read about the hunt in Africa.) This book was so easy to read because you kept the reader experiencing new characters, new countries and new game. I loved the part about your father falling out of the boat in very hostile waters. My son wanted to know more about the piranhas! I wanted to know if alligators and anacondas manage to survive in piranha filled waters. Anyway, I'm glad your father survived! I'm also glad you wrote this book. It surely was an adventure where I could enjoy a hunt from the hunters eyes.
