It came from the dark, "the third collection of misterpoet" is a very dramatic poetry collection. I could feel all sorts of different emotions and feelings throughout the collection. There are several pieces that have become personal favorites of mine. Poems that display calm and soft feelings to feelings of love and hate. Pieces that have something you can relate to. Some were so close to my heart and my personal thoughts it just made me laugh and smile for a moment. The details displayed through the collection make you really think. There are situations throughout this collection that come to life while reading. You can almost see characters acting out some of the emotions and scenes- a collection with charisma that just comes at you.

Reviewed by Tami Brady it came from the dark contains a myriad of different themes ranging from environmental issues and the beauty of nature through love and lust to introspection and the deep feelings of depression. The tie that seems to bind all of these pieces is overwhelming feeling of darkness and despair. Some of the poems reflecting scenes in nature are quite serene and gentle. However, often these works are closely associated (either immediately before or after) with accounts that are far more bleak. These dark pieces seem all the more charged when compared to these milder voices. In the accounts of love lost, the perspective is that of an individual still deep within the pain. These poems tend to be quiet dark: some being filled with rage that jumps off the page at the reader and others with a crudeness that emphasizes the poet’s desire to stop feeling. The introspective pieces are equally raw and enlightening. Several poems share the poet’s process of writing. As ties in with the general theme of this work, this evolution is not always smooth and pretty. Sometimes writing a poem is more like giving birth, very difficult but the result is well worth the effort.

"it came from the dark," the third collection of poetry by John Thompson, offers stylistic range and varied themes for its readers. Thompson's juxtaposing portrayal of life, love and relationships keeps readers on their toes. It is to the author's credit that he can tell a tale of love with beauty and eloquence and then turn around and spin a yarn of utter revelry and primal need and abandonment. Never sure what stylistic or thematic form comes with the next page, Thompson shows a wide range in poetic devices and techniques.
