WHERE THE HEAVENS MEET THE EARTH
Clouds above, clouds below, all around me swirling,
Pierced by sharp and jagged peaks heaven-ward reaching
The silence at the top of the world is profound.
It isn’t really silence but has a sound.
Is it my own heart that I hear thrumming?
Or is it a distant celestial humming?
On this rarefied and awe-inspiring ground,
I feel the peace of eternity all around.
Here I sense mysterious, stirring majesty;
Something larger than myself that I can’t see.
Here where the heavens meet the earth I now stand
Reflecting on this creation so powerful and grand.
THE WATERFALL
Sitting near the waterfall, booming notes assail my ears.
Foamy bubbles catching the light are iridescent spheres.
The drumming rhapsody drives all trivial thoughts away.
I sit silent and still, delighting in the tossing spray.
Oh to hold this precious moment still, forever to savor,
To explore timelessly this wondrous connection to nature.
I hear with rapt pleasure each note the waters are singing,
Marking the bass notes, melody and counterpoint trilling.
No notes or harmonies ever sung by a choir,
No tune that ever lifted a heart and set it on fire,
Has a greater beauty nor a more lasting pleasure stirs
Than the songs of the mountains, played in the tumbling waters.
WHATEVER COMES
When the troubles come upon you, here is what you do.
Divide them in two equal parts and I’ll take one from you.
We’ve always been able to show each other just how much we care.
Now let me walk along by your side and your burdens let me share.
Together we will ease your heart; come, put your hand in mine.
Together we will find the way, watching for a certain sign
That tomorrow the sun will come brightly shining through.
Together we’ll face everything, friends forever true.
