Review for Jennifer L. Miller
“Speaking With Shugaan”
A Fantasy Novel

In a time when the Wizards have all but been forgotten, young Aaiden discovers who he truly is.  Just when he felt he knew the world around him, it suddenly shifted and changed.  His youthful innocence is soon to be tested as he embarks on a journey full of adventure that in due time reveals all the answers he seeks.  He is aided by his uncle at first whom he thought to be just the old man of the village and soon learns of his heritage as well as the wonderful gifts he has.  When the evil King discovers that Wizards do still exist and that Aaiden is now one of them, the attacks begin.

Driven from his home by premonitions and instructions to seek aid in strangers for safety, Aaiden embarks on a quest to seek out the Elder Races of Hinothia with his new found friends and begins a remarkable journey you won’t soon forget.

This fantasy filled novel is chock full of familiar mythical creatures and Jennifer L. Miller’s style brings a fresh look to them all.  While her style reflects the literary styles of Eddings and McCaffrey, her own true to life descriptive flair shines through making “Speaking With Shugaan” a novel that will fit in very well with any fantasy lover’s library and has something for all ages.

The journey Jennifer L. Miller takes you through has wonderfully smooth transitions with the right amount of adventure to keep you wanting more.  She pulled me in and kept the reading fresh and exciting so that I was left wanting more and couldn’t wait to pick up the book and continue where I last left the daring adventurers.  It has been a long time since I became so engrossed in a fantasy book and am glad it was this one that returned me to my one true love of fantasy reading.

On a scale of 1-5 I give “Speaking With Shugaan” 4.5, well done!

Rated 4.5 out of 5

What happens when you mix rouge pyrates, warring kingdoms, fierce assassins, and the clever charm and wit of M. K. McWilliams?  An Heir of Mystery: Book One of the Age of War.

This riveting tale will keep you up and turning the pages well past moon rise. Follow Kayta on an exciting journey through the captivating lands of Eir du'Brusai as she searches for all that has been stolen from her. Meet the colorful and the shady characters who will help, or hinder, her search. Discover long buried secrets, and delve into precise politics that could possibly push the entire world into the chaos of war.

McWilliams rewrites the norms of a couple familiar fantasy creatures, as well as bringing in some imaginative ones of her own. Her flair for story telling is evident, and left me thinking about the book each time I put it down. It has been some time since I have read something that sucked me in to this degree.

The vivid details and one of a kind writing style in An Heir of Mystery make McWilliams a truly masterful Weaver of Words, tying intricate knots of action and charisma, leaving this reader to beg for more.
