Here is an excerpt of the story.
Now was the time for him to use the skills his grandfather taught him about mountain climbing. Zandar could hardly believe that these mountains were so steep, he wasn't just walking now, he was crawling up the face of the mountains. No matter how far he climbed he felt that he wasn't getting any closer to the summit. Four days of continuous climbing from just before dawn till dusk went by. Then on the fifth day Zandar could see the summit, yet it still seemed to be so far away.
Just before dusk he reached the summit. When he pulled his body up over the edge of the slope he let out a sigh of great relief for his accomplishment. He sat on the edge and looked out over the great desert. He was amazed at the immense size of the flatlands; they were so vast that he couldn't see the other side of them on the horizon.
Zandar set up camp for the night right there at the edge of the mountains. He wanted to take a look at the flatlands once more in the morning before he set out to go through the valley.
When morning came Zandar was up to watch the suns come over the mountains behind him and to get a look at the desert for one last time before he got on his way. Zandar broke camp shortly after dawn; he didn't want to waste any more time getting into the mountains.
