Picture Perfect Memories

Someone said just the other day

The old house is falling down

But I was there just last night

And this is what I found

Mom was in the kitchen

Where she always seemed to be

Dad was sitting by the fireplace

And played a song that was just for me

So I stayed awhile just taking in

The sounds and smells of home

Things no one can take from me

No matter how long they’ve been gone

From my bedroom I can see the harvest moon

It seems to hang so low

That I could reach out and touch it

Through the Walnut tree below

I can hear the whippoorwill calling out

He sounds so all alone

The sights and sounds of simpler days

Of a place I still call home

Yes, the old house is still standing

My memories won’t let it fall

I visit there most every night

And its still standing tall

In these picture perfect memories I recall
