Rebirth

The radiant sun shone down upon her face,
But she was oblivious to its warmth.
A gentle breeze caressed her porcelain skin,
But she was numb to its touch.
The delightful melodies of birds filled the air,
But she was deaf to their sweet song.

Nothing penetrated her aching heart,
Except for the cruel fact that it had been broken.
She sat there, numb to the world.
No longer caring, no longer feeling.
Eyes red and distant, a stream of tears,
Worked their way down her cheek.

She glanced up as a shadow fell over her.
There he stood, smiling at her.
A single rose in his hand, she took it
Automatically, without thinking.
He thanked her for sharing her beauty,
And then turning, he walked away.

Blinking, as if suddenly awakening
From a dream, she glanced around.
But the man had disappeared.
As she stood there searching,
She felt the sun on her face, the wind.
The air was filled with the chorus of birds.

No, she whispered.
Thank YOU for showing me how to live again.
