Kashmir
Himalayan mountain snow peaks
reflected in your eyes
of jasper green
two dots in the sky,
blue-gray, mountain
rises to greet
snowy tops like a blanket,
man seeks
to find
hidden Shangra-La,
fragile peace,
India and Pakistan
rising to meet;
rivers run flowing,
slowly,
cold,
reflection of mountains,
millenniums or more old
rippling in the dark waters,
passionate hearts bought and sold;
beating hearts,
a billion people
whose lives it molds;
golden apogee
of every day,
the setting sun
reflects its last light
on the treacherous height
of the mountains remaining;
standing guard
through the descending quiet of night
a blanket of flickering stars
shed forth pale moon-light.................
Children in the Casbah
In the Casbah at dusk
the children were playing,
and moving about
like darting fish in a pond;
the Mediterranean
has been slowly graying,
as rain begins to drop from the heaven
descending from ever-darkening skies,
yearning to cool
the heat of the day,
mercifully falling
the summer heat...............
PEACE
World is breaking out
War is everywhere
Why are people dying?
Why don’t they care?
Where is the love?
That made people best
Where is the humanity
That made people great?
People are searching for peace
But it‘s not any where
People are looking for love
But there is violence everywhere;
Why can’t we think we are human
Not animal,
Why can’t we think we are brothers
Not enemies.

the aroma of India
Sweet smell of spice
like the smoke
rising as it curls,
rising up like soft burning smoke
of fire in the moonlight;
wandering through the walls--
and through cracks in the floor,
slowly crawling-
like an insect or a gliding snake.............
The Lions of Gir
Beautiful lion prowling the day
Princely, forlorn
finding her prey
pouncing and crouching
teak forest stream
meandering along
through Gir forest green
Maldhari child
sheds tears in fear................

Of Children and Schools
electric streets
streets of Newark-
raw energy,
electrified static,
street lamp flickering
in the daytime,
sparks lighting up the night;
Harrison streets-
paved smooth stones,
of musical vibrations,
veins of ice-smooth gold,
young people
restlessly................................
Classic Poems
Tyger
Tyger! Tyger burning bright
In the forests of the night
What immortal hand or eye
Cold frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?..............
by William Blake
Passage to India
Singing my days,
Singing the great achievements of the present,
Singing the strong light works of engineers,
Our modern wonders, (the antique ponderous Seven outvied,)
In the Old World the east the Suez canal,
The New by its mighty railroad spann'd,
The seas inlaid with eloquent gentle wires...
Poetry by Rabandranth Tagore
false religion
Those who in the name of Faith embrace illusion,
kill and are killed.
Even the atheist gets God's blessings-
Does not boast of his religion;
With reverence he lights the lamp of Reason
And pays his homage not to scriptures,
But to the good in man....
Chapter 7
Of Struggle and Conflict
Shining shoes
waking up in the morning
to Rio’s sunny heat,
every night, living in the street,
ten-years-old, no home,
spend all day
with street-buddies,
other days, spent entirely alone
Rio De Janeiro
10 Reis a day...............................
the last night
the sky was painted black and gray,
the wind blew eerily on that day,
flock of white doves that normally fly,
stayed hidden away
while a soldier looked up
towards the sky-
with lifted hands
cried toward the heavens....
The Struggle of Youth:
I Learned From You
I didn't want to listen to what you were saying
I thought that I knew all I needed to know
I didn't realize that somewhere inside me
I knew you were right
But I couldn't say so
I can take care of myself
You taught me well
I learned from you
That I do not crumble
I learned that strength
Is something you choose...

albatross
Ocean- foaming, spewing sea
I see you on the horizon
what I can see…
the albatross
flying high,
widespread wings
piercing the horizon....

Paint me a Rainbow
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of white
So I can see
That the future is bright!
Paint me a rainbow
with colors of blue
Then I will see
your heart is still true
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of gray
So I can know
The future is better than today;
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of snow.........................

Paint Me a Rainbow
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of white
So I can see
That the future is bright!
Paint me a rainbow
with colors of blue
Then I will see
your heart is still true;
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of gray
So I can know
The future is better than today;
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of snow
so that I can see
That your heart is aglow;
Paint me a rainbow
On a canvas of black
To light up the night
and turn dark to light;
Paint me a rainbow
On the side of the wall
Then I will know
Your heart is still tall;
339
Paint me a rainbow
On the edge of the fence
Then I can see
That love passed the test;
Paint me a rainbow
After the rain
And then I will know
Paradise will be here again.
