"There really are monsters everywhere. All you need is the ability to see them."
I was born in Red Wing, Minnesota and grew up in a rural Wisconsin community. The fictional town of Prairie Rest, the setting for Anathema, was inspired by many of the nearby villages. I now make my home in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which is one of the settings for my next novel, Night Whispers.
One of my earliest literary endeavors was a rip-off of the supernatural soap opera, Dark Shadows. I took one of the episodes and wrote an entire story around it. It was written much like a comic book (although I've never read one, just didn't get into that sort of thing) with (horribly drawn) illustrations complete with dialogue balloons floating above the characters' heads. I wonder what ever happened to that little piece of history?
As I grew older, I wrote radio plays that my cousins and I would "perform" onto one of those old reel-to reel tape recorders (I may be dating myself here, folks, but this was before the cassette player/recorder) that you could buy from the Sears catalog. (Mine probably came out of the Christmas Wishbook edition.) I wrote and we recorded several of these, but the one that sticks out in my mind most had something to do with some kind of monster that lived in a trash dumpster. (!) Even then I had a somewhat twisted taste for the macabre.
Consequently, some of my favorite authors are: Stephen King, Bentley Little, the earlier works of Clive Barker.
Thanks for taking a moment to stop by and I hope you peek in again soon!
