EVENTS--
I am now a member of "The Biltmore's Who's Who" in Hollywood, Florida! "The Biltmore Who's Who" specializes in providing members with biographical information of Executives and Professionals. They connect members from all over North America who network, exchange ideas, and conduct business ventures together. Their website is: http://www.biltmorewhoswho.com/index.html!
A few years ago, www.lulu.com published a book of poetry titled, "Sometimes We Dream." All proceeds from the sale of the book went to St. Jude's Children's Hospital. I participated by submitting a few of my poems for the book. It made me feel so good to be contributing to help kids in this way. Recently I attended a fund raiser on behalf of "Camp Ta-kum-ta" which is a summer camp in Vermont for kids that have cancer. I have been to this event for the past 4 years. Each year they read off the names of the children who have died from cancer. Every year that I hear that list of names, I feel hollow, and I feel such empathy for the parents and the children. Before I left for the event yesterday, I thought of a poem I wrote titled, "Our Children," that seemed to appropriate to bring. It was read at the event before they read the list of names of children who have died. I told the organizer of the event that these children need our help financially, thus I feel that they are "Our Children."
"Our Children"
Our children are our
only steady beaming light;
After the cold and darkness
pass by at night;
In their eyes moonbeams;
Showing a steady lighted way;
Guiding my heart
on a path day by day.
Earnestly they search me;
From head to toe;
Marveling at how I
glisten and listen at
their every show;
Their faith in me
is all I really have;
But, what they give;
makes me more than,
just want to live.

| FROM MY POETRY COLLECTION---"The Answer" by Charmane Rae Kelley |
"The Answer," by Charmane Rae Kelley
At home as a child, to the brilliant stars I'd pray,
asking for a sign from heaven to come my way,
that their brilliance meant life far away,
and a source for meaning of Earth and her way.
All my unanswered questions on Earth I directed to them,
as there was no one else higher who could answer them.
Comfort they gave me time and time again,
sometimes clear and bright, sometimes dim and hidden.
When thousands of miles away,
the stars of heaven were again there for me,
shining brightly from the heavens.
After many years, again I prayed
for them to give me the answer to find my way back again.
Because they were in the same place as before,
it occurred to me that I need fret no more.
Home is where I am.
Strength came in knowing, on that day,
that to find my way, the answer was within me:
Go back the same way I came.

"Mother" by Charmane Rae Kelley |
|
|
My eyes swell when I think of no longer hearing your voice tinkle like a bell;
Ringing true; Singing along with you; Your spirit now drifts among us; What we lost was the maker of our chorus;
Your flame went out; As the wick turned cold, I felt old; Yet, at the same time, bold; You are no longer here to hold; Bravely I must still skip along life’s long road;
But your love now surrounds me ten-fold; I’ll remember you loved the color Gold; Everytime I see it; You’ll be here in an instant, again Mother, for me to hold. |
(For my mother, Myrtle Alta Morey who passed away in July of 2005. I'm leaving this poem up to signify her "eternal life." )
NEW SECTION!!!! FOR VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE.
In speaking for my mother, who was in an abusive relationship for almost 20 years, and myself, in one for 11 years, and another for 6 years, I feel it is important to share what I know with others about domestic violence. Prevention is one way to protect the young women out there right now entering into abusive relationships. (Keep them from going too far, and how to spot the signs). Education is the key. Here's a poem about abuse and domestic violence. If you are in an abusive relationship, call your local Battered Women's Shelter for help, even if it is just for someone to talk to. As some of you know, that follow my website, I occasionally make a surprise visit by posting a new poem unexpectedly!
"Each voice," by Charmane Rae Kelley-written on July 5, 2007
Each voice
is related to a choice;
Once a lullaby;
Now a knife;
Endings;
Over and over
again;
Broken moments;
Breathing heavy
in fear;
Always at night;
Let morning be
a new beginning;
And evening a
serenade;
And the fear,
and tears, will
slowly fade.
For those of you who are living in fear, the first step is to want a peaceful and safe morning. It is worth all the hardship you will go through to get out on your own with your kids. Have faith in yourself, and just leave. -Charmane Rae Kelley
