Book Text:
Dark Autumn is the story of five young people coming of age as Earth has became a member of an association of 100 planets. When a Earth science ship is captured and its crew held as spies, Earth must take action, but what kind? Five young people are suddenly thrust into the middle of what could be a savage war in space.
Here is a small piece from "Dark Autumn."
Anger in space:
“Carrie, if General Carbone is there, let me speak to him,” said Alan firmly.
“What? Alan, you can’t just tell the general…” Carrie was cut off as the general took the comlink from her.
“Yes Mr. Dartan, you have a comment on my strategy?”
“Yes sir I do. You know that Marvon has the lead on us, at least a hour.”
“Yes, that is understood.”
“Okay then, we can’t afford any stops. Because I know they won’t stop. We have enough supplies to get to Dened, so we should just fly full out to get there. We can find an automated refueler on the way. That way we can even use our boosters as we please.”
“Listen very carefully Dartan. You’re about to go on a nine-hour space flight. It will tax you both physically and mentally. Without a stop along the way, your mental judgments will be affected. You will not see things clearly. I dare say that already your exhausted both mentally and physically. To go straight through would be foolish. You must stop for supplies and fuel along the way. The fact that Marvon is ahead at this point is irrelevant. You need to be as alert physically and mentally as possible. Also, what happens if you’re attacked in space? You could expend your fuel before reaching a automated station.” Alan slammed down the comlink, furious. Bill shook his head; Alan was getting like Alan again.
“Sir with all due respect, we have to take those chances. Yes, I admit we are all very tired here. But we will make it fine. We have to go for it. This is no time to be passive. We have to just forge ahead and take our chances.”
“No you will not. You will do as I direct. There will be no more discussion on the matter. And if you persist, I’ll have you put out as a member of the crew, and Menning will take over.” Alan got up and threw the comlink against a the cockpit wall. His face deep red. Then he picked it up and spoke again.
“Carrie are you hearing this?”
“Yes Alan.”
“Your best friend could die because the general wants us to be sissies!”
“I suggest you do what he says,” said Carrie evenly.
“Oh…I see how it is! I never thought I would see you become a coward Carrie, and turn your back on your friends.”
“Just do what your ordered Alan. You’re the one wasting time now.”
This is one of my poems. I'm very much into raising my huskies, and this poem I wrote says how I feel about the breed.
Your Siberian Husky
To all owners of the Siberian Husky, and the proud breed
I am your friend, your loyal companion I always will be as long as blood flows through my veins. I am always alert, the wolf in me keeping watchful eye over you, my dedicated owner. I always will as long as blood flows through my veins. My eyes are sharp, my ears acute, my nose powerful, always keeping vigil. They always will, as long as blood flows my through veins. I may be big, or even small, but my heart is very large, and totally belongs to you my dedicated owner. It always will as long as blood flows through my veins. I am proud, strong, loyal, protective and always there for you my dedicated owner. As long as blood flows thorugh my veins, I am your Siberian Husky.
