 Chit Chat About "Lucian's Angel"

I would like for the public, esp. the people of New Orleans to know that Lucian's Angel was written about 3 years before the terrible events caused by Hurricane Katrina. It has been a concern of mine due to the timing of the release of my book, that the citizens of such a wonderful city visited by disaster, might feel that I am trying to profit from the publicity Katrina caused by putting New Orleans so much in the news. Such a thing couldn't be farther from the truth.  It is my wish that my book and words might help others to see & share in the beauty and flavor of what I feel is one of the most romantic cities I have ever visited. Please consider this my tribute.

In 1991 my family and I were lucky enough to visit New Orleans. My sister Joy (the smart one) was invited to New Orleans to test to possibly be on "Jeopardy", the television show. I wrote off for all the tourist info avail. It was fascinating to wander the streets & visit the places I'd seen in movies like the famous "Bourbon St." To stand in front of the actual "Street Car Named Desire". To pass by the former home of "Jean Lafitte" on the way to have lunch in a real pub possibly once frequented by pirates. To stand by the Mississippi and watch paddleboats such as the "Natchez" pass. To wander the aisles of the "French Market" while listening to the musical accents of the locals drifting past.  To breathe in the aromas of the many local foods offered on the food court floor of the Jax Beer building. To sit by the river and sample Cafe au lait & Beignets at the "Cafe du Monde". To see so many of the places that Anne Rice wrote about in her book, "The Vampire Named Lestat". (I hope I spelled that right).

There is so much more to New Orleans than I could even write about, so much that I didn't get to see during my too short visit.  I've never even been to Marde Gras! I sincerely hope to one day return and see all that I missed. I hope to be able to post some of the photos from that trip here as soon as I can turn them into the modern technology that magically puts photos on computers.                                                                        So New Orleans, is it any wonder that I would choose you for my first published romance?

 News From Home

 April 2006

4/7 My sons, Michael and Justin just celebrated their eighth birthday on April 4. My big gift to them was new & bigger bikes plus lots of Yu-gi-oh cards. I should own stock in the card company by now as many as I've bought!

4/7 I moved to Clayton NC in February. Have been busy doing lots of home repairs & decorating. Just finished putting in my own veg. garden. Grabbed hold of some weeds that I shouldn't have & wound up with a bad case of poison oak, ivy or sumac. One's just as bad as the other as far as I'm concerned!

4/8 The rash is still spreading! Tomorrow will be my first appearance to the public as an Authur. (The Library Event). Don't worry guys, it's not catching & no, I don't always look this bumpy!

A funny thing happened today. Richard & I were out shopping & someone came up to us & asked if anyone had ever told him that he looked like a cross between the actor Sam Elliot & the singer Eric Clapton!  Now I have a new nickname for him. I spent the afternoon calling him SamRick. Maybe we should put him on the cover of my next romance.

Bought my first scratch off lotto tickets since they became legal in NC. I'd heard somewhere that the number 8 might be lucky for me this month??? so I waited until the 8th to buy 8 tickets for $8. So if I spent $10. & won $2. plus a free $1. ticket, does that make me lucky? Now if that free ticket is the big one, that would be lucky!  The twins are spending the night with Grandma. It's soooo quiet, I feel like I'm on a vacation - except for the rash. Do I miss the kids? Why of course I do/will tomorrow.  Hey, pass the popcorn & turn up the movie. Shhhhh.

4/9 Well the library event is over, it was very interesting. There were lots of talented writers there including one of my new favs best selling romance author, Brenda Jernigan. She has a wonderful sense of humor & is a talented speaker. I was glad that there were so many speakers so that I didn't have to! I'm not ready for that yet.

 My Hobbies, Etc.

First would be reading of course! I esp. love to read Horror, anything by Stephen King & Dean Koontz. I read a lot of Alfred Hitchcock. And my specialty, Romance for that is my Mom's fav. & she passes them on to me. Once in awhile you just need to lose yourself in the beauty of the love and romance found within the pages of such a book. I sometimes like Science Fiction. I also still enjoy Mythology & Fairy Tales.

Another of my fav. writers is Clyde Edgerton. In 1999 I wrote a letter telling him how much I enjoy his books & how some of his stories & characters remind me so much of my own family. I mentioned some of the similiarities to him. Mr. Edgerton was kind enough to send a personal reply even wishing my twins a happy birthday.

I love photography but prefer my old 35mm. Not ready yet to tackle the new digital camera. I'm being dragged into modern technology a bit at the time kicking & screaming all the way. I've been taking photos since I was 10 & had to use a box type camera.

I love the water & swimming & though I haven't done it in years I've never forgotten the pleasure of horseback riding. I love the beach first, then the mountains. I enjoy camping & freshwater fishing. Yep, I can even put up my own tent & bait my own hook thank you.

Music, just about anything & everything. I grew up on a mix of country & rock 'n' roll & learned to appreciate most of the others. You'd find quite a selection between my cd's & cassettes. I was given one of the new stereos that look like old timey record players for Christmas. It has everything on it. I've begun to haunt flea markets to buy the record albums that I listened to as a teenager.

I like to garden, flowers & veg. My garden decorations often consist of whatever the area around me has to offer including rocks & pinestraw. You wouldn't believe how many big rocks I single handedly carried from the woods surrounding our new home to place in my garden. Now when the flower seeds finally come up (if they do) it might begin to look like a flower garden instead of a rock garden!
