 Background Information

I'm a small town NC girl, born & bred. Never lived anywhere else though until I was in my thirties I thought I wanted to move far, far away. Once the twins were born (yes, I said twins - more about that later) some nesting instinct kicked in & it became apparent how wonderful it was to live near Grandma. I began to see how wonderful my home state truly is & now am content to be where I am though a vacation now & then to somewhere truly exotic wouldn't be turned down (especially without the twins).

I was born Oct. 25, 1960 in Dunn (I'll let you do the math). If you're familiar with horoscopes, the stars & such, that makes me a Scorpio. I only began writing about 3 years ago. I'd always wanted to but couldn't understand how you could write a conversation between two people & it not sound fake. Suddenly one day a story (not Lucian's Angel) just seemed to write itself in my head so fast that I could hardly get it down on paper. After that it was easy, I wrote a book a week for two weeks before I even slowed down.

I've been everything from a waitress, bartender, shoes & lingerie sales & machine operator to an Office Manager & Realtor. Now I can finally say that I am a writer. All I ever wanted to be from the time I was 8 was a mom. When asked how many kids did I want, I'd say a dozen! I was an only child at that time. When I was in my early teens my mother gifted me with a baby brother, Kevin, then 2 years later a sister, Joy. By the time they were out of diapers & I'd changed plenty of them, the number of kids that I wanted had dropped drastically!

Please don't get me wrong, I admit to having a somewhat twisted sense of humor but I love my kids & wouldn't take anything for them. They are the light of my life. I became a stay-at-home-mom when they were born & once they started kindergarten, I became a part-time housekeeper. I learned something important during that time, being a maid is hard work! So if you are lucky enough to have a maid, please be good to her - she deserves respect & gratitude & a nice big Christmas bonus wouldn't hurt!

I began a lifetime love of reading at the age of 10 when my Mom left her True Story magazines lying around. I know Mom, I was too young & shouldn't have been reading such stuff but look at the result. Not only did I fall in love with the written word, I fell in love with romance so now thanks to you, I'm a Romance Writer.

I've lived in many small towns around NC. Lillington is where my early roots are. I graduated from Coats School in 1979. In between I even spent a few months in Angier. Then I stretched my wings a bit, left Harnett County & moved to Zebulon, Middlesex, then the big city of Raleigh. Somehow home calls us back & I wound up in Harnett again, spending many years in Fuquay-Varina. Now, I've begun a new life in Clayton. These Johnston county folks are pretty nice folks!

 Accomplishments

I consider my first major accomplishment to have been to actually graduate high school. Having been married at the ripe old age of 17, there seemed to be a lot of doubt that I would be able to take care of a home, a husband, a job & still finish school but somehow, maybe because of the doubt, I did it. Sometimes you just have to prove yourself to the world.

My greatest accomplishment are my 10 year old twin sons, Justin & Michael. They are my only children & my greatest joy. They were two before I learned that yes, twins do run in my family. Thanks Dad!

Having a book (Lucian's Angel) published was a major accomplishment for me. To think that someone thought my words were special enough to actually put them in print, what an ego boost. Then to top that off, they accepted my second book, (Cherokee Lightning) a time travel romance. That one is currently in production but I'll try to keep you posted. I've written several others but just haven't gotten around to sending them in yet. Life's been pretty busy lately.

I began writing poetry when I was ten. Some have actually been published. My poem entitled "To Be Set Free", written for my Grandmother Elsie Clark, was published in the 1986 American Poetry Anthology, Vol.VI, #3 & received an Award of Merit.  The poem "My Friend" was published in the 1986 Hearts On Fire: A Treasury of Poems on Love, Vol.III. My favorite poem, "In My Mind" was published in the same Hearts on Fire book, then again in 1989 in the New American Poetry Anthology. "In My Mind" received both an Award of Merit and The Golden Poet Award.

In 1990 my poem "Tonight" was selected by Macfadden Women's Group to be published in an issue of True Romance magazine. I declined their offer as they wished to purchase all rights, including copyright to the poem which was at that time entered with most of my others in a local contest (which I did not win).
