I loved this book! The ending was a powerful stop, totally unexpected. Tina Mathis, NC

Finely crafted prose swiftly told, Flutter By seduces and flitters to draw you in. But draw you in it will. A small handful of crisply defined characters, some actual, some imagined, are all that's needed to fuel this narrative set in the primitively rural south, 1962. We learn late in the book that it's the year of the cicada in these parts, and it's as if the cad Rodney had crawled from beneath ground to antagonize Dell and Lucy. But mostly, it's the artfully simple voice given to Dell, the girl "that causes a lot of crap", that carries this sad, sweet and ultimately insightful tale of uncertain progeny, disaffected motherhood, of human bonds and emotional bondage. In my book, this book is a winner. Gary Marchal, Louisville, KY
