Upon her retirement, Carol returned to her first love, art and writing and illustrating children's books. All proceeds from David, Mormor, Horno and the Yak go to the "Mara Fund" which supports activities to encourage women to receive preventive care and treatment of breast cancer in countries where shame is the major obstacle to early detection and treatment. The Fund targets under-privileged communities in developing countries- the type of places that the author's daughter Mara worked.
