What is hidden in the darkened #3 Shaft of Perry Mines?

 In Perry 3 is historical fiction set on the rugged frontier of the iron ranges and pine forests of the Upper Midwest. Action begins in the 1870s and 1880s and concludes in present day. Much of the action takes place in, around, or concerns the Perry #3 shaft.  It is a leisurely paced tale of secretive, get-rich-quick entrepreneurs: how they scheme, how they meet even more ruthless scoundrels, and how their mundane secrets remain hidden for more than one hundred years. The story includes extortion, arson, and murder. Action takes place in the forests, mines, frontier villages, and in big-city home offices of the mining company. Emphasis is on people—good, bad, and in between—and their relation to their environment.

A young victim, daughter of the head schemer, is drawn into danger by the plotters. She leaves behind several poignant clues.
