I was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa on May 18, 1974. I married my soulmate Shane on Sept 3, 1994 and together we have three children, Shayna, Kaycee & Dakotah. They are the apples of our eyes. When growing up we moved around alot, my parents were divorced when I was 11. My best friend growing up was my brother Shane (yes, the same name as my husband). He ended up taking his own life on Christmas Day in 1992. I met my husband 9 months later and my life improved greatly. We had children as soon as we got married and I owe my successes in life to my husband. He rescued me from a self-destructive path that I was on. He is my hero. Another hero in my life is my grandmother LaCleda (Katie) Silvers. She is and always will be my true inspiration as she has always been there for me. She raised me throughout my teenage years and helped me after my brother's untimely death. She also brought me to Jesus Christ, which is my Lord and Savior. She is the strongest person I know as she battles many health ailments but she does it with the most positive outlook. She absolutely NEVER complains about anything. She is such a positive influence on everyone she meets. If I turn out to be half the woman that she is, I will be extremely blessed.
I grew up with a love for children's literature. I had a teacher in the 6th grade that also made a big impact on my life. Her name is Sandra Sykes. She always supported my ambitions and dreams. Thank you Mrs. Sykes!
I am currently working on a series of books based on a character I created called Kaycee Kangaroo. Inspired by my middle child Kaycee. The first book in this series is in the process of being published by PublishAmerica and it is called 'Kaycee Kangaroo Lost in Alphabet Forest'. Will keep you updated on the upcoming release of this first book.
