 Reviews                 Detachment X-Ray

WOW!!!! Nice job. I haven't stayed so rivited to a book in so long...it is a great book and so believable...I am waiting for your next Work of Art. Larry Brown--Arizona

Well done. Above and beyond expectations...continuously interesting, easy to relate to            Bert Brault--Florida

Survival of the toughest kind. With all the current rage over the popular "Survivor" series on TV, Detachment X-Ray delivers 100% of the lifestyles of "real" survivors of the military kind. This novel is past paced, readable, humorous, disgusting and heartwarming. Not a book for just service people, it has much to give to any and all readers who value the freedoms most take for granted. Detachment X-Ray goes behind the scenes of a man's life and all he "survived." Barbecued rats, turnips, and raw rabbit are just a few of the tasty meals included in this amazing tale of true grit, for sure. Two thumbs way up!                                                 Lynn Barry, author of Puddles and Bjoyfl---New York.

For readers who enjoy military action and covert operations, Jess Parker's novel, Detachmeent X-Ray has it in abundance. Mr. Parker's main character, Jake Green, a Seaman, is assigned as a radio spotter for a detachment of Marines during the Korean War. Following a brutal capture and a harrowing escape, Green is assigned to Detachment X-Ray, a covert special operations group. Preparation is intense and each prospective qualifier for the unit must endure unbelievable survival, combat and physical training--and all without the benefit of being told what their actual assignments will be. As the exhilarating story and operations of Detachment X-Ray unfold, the reader will continually hear a voice in the back of his/her mind asking the question, "is this novel really fiction or did the author actually live through what I just read?"                                                                                                Jerry Mohrlang ---Colorado

Detachment X-Ray offers a look inside a covert government operation and begins during the time of the Korean War and continues through recent history. The first part of the book is interesting and builds steadily, though it falters slightly in the middle and relies too heavily on old cliches of fighting 'communists.' Those would be things I didn't care for though. Author Jess Parker draws heavily on his own experiences in the US Navy to give the story an authentic feel. In many places I was drawn into the story enough to forget everything and become engrossed in the plot. The story will take you through a series of emotions from fear to rejoicing and onward into disgust and you will find yourself pulled deeper into the web Jess Parker so masterfully weaves with his main character Jake Green. For military men, conspiracy theorists and lover of a good thriller will all enjoy this book. Overall it was a good read and with very few flaws to interupt a great performance by the author.               Margaret Chapman---North Carolina

 REVIEWS                               COVERT AVENGERS

In the previous book (Detachment X-Ray) Jake Green "Navy" had told Major Long Ball Kwon;next time they met Jake would gut him. Surprise, surprise, when Long Ball appeared with a trade delegation from the People's Republic of China as Mr. Dong Ping (future premier).

Jake had been in deep cover, ordered after he had left Detachment X-Ray. He emerged and became Assisstant to a United States Senator, Sam Martin. Jake had been at a conference when he spied Long Ball. Jake was lucky enough to get the best secretary on the Hill and her big boy friend was a small arms expert. Better yet Jake struck gold when he hired a red haired Irish lass as his driver. She immediately demonstrated her abilities when tails from the FBI, CIA, and the Chinese Secret Service had tio be shook off!

Jake, his new staff, and comrades from the Korean War got together to deal with a mountain feud, drug running operation(via sea), and made plans for Long Ball.

***** Very few sequels to books and movies are as good as the original. Yet Jess Parker has succeeded in doing this. It was fast paced and non-stop all the way through the novel with a climatic ending that left me laughing and begging for more! I can only hope the author is considering a third for Jake Green. I am happy to be able to highly recommend this book, and its author, to everyone I meet!

HUNTRESS REVIEWS (Reviewed by Detra Fitch)

Jess Parker will make a secret agent fan out of me yet! First Detachment X-Ray captured this reviewer (whose literary preferences have never strayed to the "macho action" kingdom) and then I found myself enthralled with yet another adventure of Jake Green in Covert Avengers. Same down home hunger and a sterling new cast of believable and enderaing characters as and older, "Navy" (alias Leader, aka my hero) returns to action to avenge brutal injustices of the Korean War.

I keep asking myself how Jess Parker does it....the narrative is as trim as fatless serloin, but the savory taste (suspense, humor, and good old rootin for the good gys) comes through without embelishment. And there's only one word for me now-I'm hooked!-as everybody should be if they read these books.
